Spring Obsession- Cherry Blossoms

Apr-26-12  |  My Latest Affection
Cherry Blossom Tree- Manhattan
Cherry Blossom, Film Photography
A couple of weeks ago Chad and I spent a few days in one of our favorite places- Manhattan. It was the perfect time to visit New York as spring had just arrived. Every corner had planters bursting with daffodils and tulips, while the parks were painted in color with one of my personal favorites- cherry blossoms. As a child, I lived in Japan for a couple of years while my dad was stationed there and I will never forget the epic cherry blossom bloom that took place every year. They would fall from the trees and color the streets in beauty... Seeing them this year in New York was so special and I will always be in awe of their brief, yet incredible beauty.

My favorite Things 2011

Dec-01-11  |  My Latest Affection
It's the first of December and I simply can't believe it is that time of year again! While I am still recovering from a November full of weddings and my recent overindulgence from Thanksgiving, we are busy putting up decorations and getting excited for all the upcoming holidays and festivities.
I know I am far from Oprah, but I thought I would share a few of my favorite things this year, both photo and otherwise. Some of them are long time favorites while a few are recent discoveries that make me smile and very well may end up in some of the gift boxes I will be giving this year. Enjoy!

1. Newton Running Shoes. Shoes smart enough to be named after Sir Isaac himself, they are brightly colored, feather light, and promote a healthy stride. Both Chad and I have been training in them and love them!
2. Kate Spade accessories have always been on my Christmas list but I immediately fell in love when I saw their new Mrs. necklace. The perfect gift for the bride or newlywed on your list.
3. I am all about gifts that give and both the World Wildlife Fund and Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund offer plenty of options to make your present count. For 50 years, WWF has been protecting the future of nature. The world's leading conservation organization, WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally. The Fossey Fund's programs are dedicated to gorilla conservation in Africa, and to helping people who live near those habitats in Rwanda and Congo.
4. Go green with these amazing reusable bags from BAGGU. They're made from parachute like material and come in tons of different bright colors and designs. The best part is they're small enough to fit in your purse; which makes them the perfect solution to the grocery bag dilemma. I have a set of five of them in my handbag at all times and never need extra plastic. A great stocking stuffer!
5. Lollia products are the perfect hostess gift with their beautiful designs and addicting scents. I don't travel without their adorable miniature fragrances.

1. A video light is a must-have item in my camera bag. The Lowell i-light video light is perfect for reception details and low light evening shots.
2. I shoot both film and digital and when shooting medium format color film my go to is Fuji Pro 400 H. The color and contrast is soft and beautiful, everything I am looking for in a film.
3. Adobe Lightroom is my post production life saver. I do all of my initial editing, color correction, exposure adjustments and blog post images from here. It also allows me to have all my weddings in libraries and organized for quick and easy access.
4. GEPE CF card cases are the best for protecting my CF cards. They're bulletproof (I've had the same ones for 5 years), waterproof, and compact for traveling. Not to mention I love that they offer them in neon yellow which makes them quick to find in the dark abyss of my camera bag. I buy mine from B&H in New York.
5. Probably my most valuable piece of gear other than my camera equipment is my Boda Lens Bag. These shoulder (or hip) bags are made for photographers on the move and I have been using one since they were introduced years ago. They are the perfect lens/storage tote for wedding day coverage and are small enough that you don't notice wearing it (well, almost don't!). I've never shot a wedding or portrait session without mine!
Happy gifting!

Natural Beauty

Venue Love- San Ysidro Ranch

Sep-28-11  |  Weddings, My Latest Affection
While in Santa Barbara I had the opportunity to spend some time at the one and only San Ysidro Ranch. The tranquil property in the lush foothills of Montecito has been an exclusive getaway for over one hundred years. The property even played host to John and Jackie Kennedy on their honeymoon, amazing!
From its beginnings in 1769 as a way station for Franciscan monks, to its days as a citrus ranch and finally a guest ranch in 1893, San Ysidro Ranch has made its imprint as a part of California history. The current owners have been careful to preserve the history of the ranch (including the Adobe cottage built in 1825) and have made additions to property with seamless perfection. In every corner of the property you will find small, hand picked details that make this property feel more like a one of a kind private residence than a hotel.
San Ysidro has me wishing that Chad and I could have one more wedding celebration! With stunning gardens, lawns, lavender fields, quaint courtyards and light filled trees, the property is an unbelievable wedding location. It exudes the intimacy and romance that every bride searches for and has the landscapes and details that make it a photographer's dream. Needless to say, I am dying to shoot a wedding here!

Thank you so much to Shani of San Ysidro for taking the time show me around!

A few of my affections..

Jun-10-11  |  My Latest Affection
Some old, some new, some wedding, some not... here are a few things that I just adore.
I have had a life long love affair with horses and couldn't imagine life without them.

Sweet peonies... in every shade, so soft, beautiful and romantic. I love how they can brighten a room or table scape.

Jannie Baltzer headpieces. Gorgeous, one of a kind, and the perfect wedding detail.

Feel free to leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you!!
